Compassion Outreach Ministry

For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in-Matthew 25:35

The ground work for this ministry was started in March of 2011. We began by picking a room in the church for the food pantry and built shelves. After some hard work we had a stocked pantry and had our first distribution on April 16th, 2011. We started off servicing just five families. Little did we know that despite our plans to grow this ministry slowly, God had a different plan for us.

The F5 Tornadoes hit Alabama just a little over a week later on April 27th, 2011. Our church quickly became a drop off site for donations for the tornado victims and we kicked into action. We began helping families by taking them clothes and personal hygiene items, working hands-on in clean up, serving food, taking food and other needed items to areas that need them, setting up a church for the use of a school, praying and loving all of those we came in contact with. It changed our hearts forever and our ministry!

When the donations quit coming in we knew we had no choice but to start a clothes closet. God had placed all of these donations in our hands and we were to use them. So we began a search again for a room and after some more hard work the rods were up and filled with clothes ranging in size from infant to adult. But within a few months we had outgrown the clothes closet and had to expand into the next room. We now store household items, shoes, toys, sheets, dishes, furniture, anything that could be used to put a house back together and a family on their feet after a disaster such as a tornado or house fire.

We have distributions every third Saturday of each month from 9am to 11am. We continue to grow the number of families we service monthly and pray that God will continue to grow us to His limits not ours! We are praying for His will and His expansion on this ministry and pray that you will be blessed through it as well.

Prayer Ministry

And take... the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints...” – Ephesians 6:17-18

At First Baptist Church Cherokee, one of the biblical means through which we desire to glorify God is through intercessory prayer. We recognize the gravity of our purpose as a “house of prayer” and would enjoy taking your needs before the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). When you complete the following prayer request form your need will be shared with the prayer warriors of this church family. If you would like for your request to remain private, then your wishes will be honored.

Women’s Ministry

The Women’s ministry of First Baptist Church Cherokee exists to glorify God through leading women to find their ultimate delight in knowing Jesus Christ. Our practical purpose is to equip Christian ladies through biblical discipleship so that they might walk in spiritual freedom and fulfill their God ordained destiny. Our strategy is three-fold: Teaching, Transparency, and Testimony.

We teach the word of truth so that God is most glorified and we might be free.  - John 8:32

We are transparent before one another so that God is most glorified and we might be encouraged in our common struggles. - I Peter 5:9; James 5:16

We testify to the works of sovereign grace in our own lives that God may be most glorified and we might find hope in our life experiences. - Psalm 34

If you are in our area and a female age eighteen or beyond, the First Baptist Church of Cherokee invites you to become involved in this ministry through classes, conferences, and community. Grace to you!

Brotherhood

The Brotherhood of First Baptist Church Cherokee exists to glorify God and help men discover the joy of a lifestyle of servant-hood to God through ministering to the men and boys of our community.  It is our goal to model the servant-hood of Christ and encourage one another in this process.  The practical means through which we fulfill the duties of this ministry are through teaching, fellowship, worship, and service in the community.

Children’s Ministry

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. -Proverbs 22:6

The Children’s ministry at First Baptist Church Cherokee exists to exalt God, equip parents, and encourage children to discover the supreme joy of knowing Jesus Christ and making Him known.

Children’s ministry is one of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of our church. Every week the sounds of young children can be heard playing, singing, and laughing as they learn more about Jesus Christ. We offer age appropriate Sunday School classes, Children’s Choir on Sunday evenings, TEAM KID—a high-energy ministry composed of biblical teaching, scripture memorization, life applications, and recreation, Puppet Ministry—a unique and creative way of presenting the gospel, Vacation Bible School, and multiple activities throughout the year.

FUEL: A Student Ministry

"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." -1 Peter 2:9

FUEL, the student ministry at First Baptist Church Cherokee, exists to exalt God and engage teenagers with the word of truth in order that they may discover the supreme joy of knowing Jesus Christ. It is our practical goal to evangelize, equip, and encourage teens at this phase of life.

We evangelize lost teens so that they may embrace the worth and beauty of Jesus Christ.

We equip believing teens that they may grow in the grace, knowledge, and joy of Jesus Christ.

We encourage believing teens to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness in their daily struggle to live out the surpassing beauty and worth of Jesus Christ.

Student ministry is always an adventure in grace at FBCC! All 7th-12th grade students gather for worship with the praise band and weekly messages from Brother Steve on Wednesday nights. We offer Sunday School for teens on Sunday mornings and Drama Team practice on Sunday evenings. Throughout the year students are engaged with conferences, retreats, and various opportunities to minister.
